Malware Removal

Why is antivirus software so important?

A computer without antivirus software protection could be infected within minutes of connecting to the internet.  Be sure to install antivirus software and update it regularly.  Computer viruses can be programmed to cause damage to your computer files, prevent a user from accessing data, or to take control of your computer.  Worms and malware can lead to information theft.  Antivirus software is a program or set of programs that are designed to prevent, search for, detect, and remove computer viruses.  Take action in preventing malicious software from impacting your computer.

Computer viruses and malware are more prevalent than ever before.  Unfortunately, your firewall or computer security software may not protect you from every possible threat.  We have the capabilities and knowledge to address virus and malware removal.  We are always ready to help clean up your computer of unwanted malicious software.

Viruses come in many forms.  Some viruses can be annoying, while others can have malicious intent meant to rob you of your personal information, passwords, identity, and banking information.  If your computer is at risk or has already been affected by potential threats, you need to address the issue before it goes too far and causes too much damage or impact.

Malicious software, Trojan horses, viruses, adware, and spyware can enter your local network and computer through many avenues including:

  • Inadvertently downloading from a seemingly harmless e-mail or website

  • As an add-on to an installed software update

  • Visiting websites that are meant to steal your personal information or data

Some tips to avoid malware and viruses include:

  • Only download software and updates from websites you trust

  • Do not click on links in emails that look odd or suspicious, even if they are coming from ‘friends’.  Your friend’s computer could have been compromised

  • Always read the terms and conditions before downloading new software

  • Be aware of emails that look suspicious, even if you think it is coming from a trusted source

  • Password-protect all downloads to prevent unwanted software installations

  • Be wary of sites offering free stuff in exchange for your personal information

  • Ensure that when purchasing items from the internet that you are on a secure connection.  Check the URL address at the top of your browser window to ensure it starts with ‘https’

The following are a few symptoms that might indicate if your computer has been infected by a virus:

  • Pages you navigate to in your browser will redirect to other pages

  • No matter what you do, your computer, mouse or keyboard will not respond

  • Computer crashing for no reason, or computer re-starts on its own

  • Files are missing, or extra/duplicate files suddenly appear

  • Applications not responding as the normally should

  • Unusual error messages

  • Endless and frustrating pop-ups

  • Hard drive and other discs are inaccessible

We implement a strategic step-by-step process to rid your computer of any and all possible threats.  Additional options include restoring your computer to a factoring default image which allows for a safe and manageable experience.  While having an up-to-date, active and functioning anti-virus service is very important, it can’t protect you from every possible issue.
